How to Style a Cape

March 7, 2016

Capes have been huge this season! It seems like I’ve seen them all over in a variety of prints, lengths, and materials. When I first saw this one I automatically loved it, but I realized that capes have to be strategically styled.

Clothes were literally piled on my bedroom floor as I tried on way too many outfit combos in search of the perfect way to style this cape. Can anyone relate to this situation?! Ultimately I prevailed and today I’m excited to be sharing my 3 essential tips for rocking a cape during these last couple weeks of winter!

  1. Rock a pair of skinny jeans. Since capes can be rather flowy, I think wearing a tight pair of jeans is the perfect way to look less bulky.

  1. Wear a turtleneck. A few years back I would have laughed at the previous statement. Flash forward to this winter and all I can say is that my style has definitely changed. I love how the turtleneck peeks out of the cape, giving the look more texture! Plus it kept me super warm!

3. Choose a taller pair of boots. With the cape being on the longer side, I decided to wear my riding boots to lengthen the appearance of my legs. Who doesn’t want longer looking legs?! This could also be done with over the knee boots, which are another major trend this season.
