Happy Thursday loves! So you’ve likely noticed that I’ve been a little absent lately both here and on social media! Things have just been super busy and I would rather take a break for a few days than post inferior content just to “post” something. However, today I’m excited to be sharing this spring look, which I think would be perfect for a Mother’s Day brunch this weekend.
Off-the-shoulder (OTS) is a major trend this season and it’s looking like it will continue through the summer, which makes me SO happy! I was hesitant at first to try it because I was concerned it would make my shoulders look too broad, but once I took the leap, I was hooked. The cute pink OTS top I’m wearing is from Charming Charlie! Don’t you think the crochet detail is so fun!? Unfortunately, the top sold out super fast, but I wanted to share anyways because this is a type of look anyone can recreate! Also, there are many other cute OTS tops here + similar pink ones linked at the bottom of this post.
Since OTS tops are so popular, I wanted to share some tips for picking the perfect one! Scroll down to read those!
Look at the Length
When finding the perfect OTS top, the key is to look at the length. Being so tall, I often experience these types of tops being too short. Since I’m usually not going for the crop top look, I’ve learned that I have to either try these tops on in store OR if I’m shopping online, I always make sure to look for the length in the online description. Personally, I like the top to be a little longer than the top of my pants, enough so that it covers the button on them.
Regular vs. Flounce
There are two main types of OTS tops. The first is the regular one (not the type I’m wearing), which is an OTS top with just one layer such as this one. The second type (the one I’m wearing), is the flounce one. The main difference is that flounce OTS tops have a second layer on the top half of the top. I own both types, but I prefer the flounce ones because I think they make the top more fun! However, if you have a bigger bust, it’s better to stick with the regular version as it will be more flattering.
Think of the Bottoms
Many OTS tops are boxy so when deciding which one to purchase, think of which type of bottoms you will likely wear with the top. For a wider OTS top, I recommend sticking with skinny jeans or tight shorts. On the other hand, if the OTS top is more narrow, you can get away with wearing a wider leg or more flowy pant. This all just comes down to personal preference.
